Join the Interactive Advertising Bureau, Inc. (IAB) in a senior public policy advocacy role in the Legal & Public Policy Department. In this position, you will shape and enhance IAB’s policy advocacy to advance legislation and regulations around issues critical to the digital advertising industry. You will collaborate not only with others at the IAB and its member companies but also with government officials, coalitions, and stakeholders to develop and implement IAB’s public policy agenda.

Reporting to the EVP, General Counsel of the IAB, you will have diverse responsibilities and duties, ensuring our organization operates at the forefront of public policy advocacy. The position is based in Washington, D.C. Title and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

Strategic Planning

  • Develop comprehensive advocacy strategies and campaign plans to achieve policy goals.
  • Dive deep into policy research, analysis, and advocacy, staying informed and engaged with relevant issues and stakeholders, with a particular emphasis on privacy, cross-border data flows, artificial intelligence, and taxes.
  • Ideate and collaborate on research demonstrating the value of digital advertising to consumers.
  • Identify policy risks and opportunities and proactively provide trusted analysis, insights, and recommended strategies to cross-functional teams.

Policy Advocacy

  • Build relationships with Congressional offices, Administration leaders, and relevant regulatory agencies to advocate for desired policy changes.
  • Oversee advocacy days and other advocacy-related events.
  • Monitor legislative activity and track relevant bills and regulations at the state and federal levels.
  • Draft policy proposals, testimony, and other advocacy materials.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Administer working groups consisting of IAB member companies to reach a consensus on public policy issues.
  • Build and maintain relationships, as well as coordinate advocacy efforts, with key stakeholders.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to identify, inform, and strategize on policy opportunities.

Communication & Public Outreach

  • Help lead and collaborate with others at the IAB on its public relations activities, including press releases, media interviews, and social media engagement.
  • Develop messaging and talking points to effectively communicate the organization’s advocacy positions to the public and media.
  • Speak on behalf of the IAB as a policy expert, representing the organization in various media and public forums.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Experience and success in shaping and implementing public policy initiatives.
  • Ability to engage and act on the collective thoughts of our membership, finding consensus and creating excitement and energy around our programs.
  • Knowledgeable about the business and technology underpinnings of the digital advertising industry or, alternatively, other technology-based industries.
  • Knowledgeable about privacy and other issues affecting the digital advertising industry is preferred.
  • Strong facilitation skills, with the ability to plan and moderate meetings effectively.
  • Fosters open communication, inclusive environments, and collaborative decision-making.
  • Outstanding oral communication skills, with the expectation of presenting in large public forums.
  • Outstanding written communication skills, with the expectation of submitting persuasive comments to legislators and regulators.
  • High energy and strong work ethic, with the ability to consistently set and meet challenging goals.
  • Excellent planning, organizing, and project management skills, with a knack for developing and executing clear plans.
  • Willingness to travel as required to support organizational objectives and team activities.
  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of experience in relevant areas; advanced degrees preferred.
