The K-12 State and Government Relations Specialist

The K-12 State and Government Relations Specialist will play a critical role in advancing PowerSchool’s interests in the K-12 education technology sector by supporting lobbying strategies at the state level and assisting in international government affairs initiatives. This role will involve proactive engagement with government entities to position and protect PowerSchool’s business interests and foster positive relationships.

Responsibilities

State-Level Government Relations:

  • Monitor state-level education technology policies, legislation, and regulatory developments.
  • Assist in the development and execution of state-level lobbying strategies to promote PowerSchool’s solutions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with state-level policy influencers, education associations, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Prepare advocacy materials, policy briefs, and presentations for meetings with state legislators and government officials.
  • Coordinate with PowerSchool marketing teams to create grassroots advocacy efforts, including letter-writing campaigns, phone banks, and legislative outreach.
  • Collaborate with the Government Affairs Director to identify policy priorities and advocacy opportunities at the state level.

International Government Affairs:

  • Assist in the development of international government affairs strategies to expand PowerSchool’s global presence.
  • Research and analyze education technology policies, regulations, and market conditions in target countries.
  • Cultivate relationships with international government officials, ministries of education, and relevant agencies.
  • Support the preparation of advocacy materials for international stakeholders and policymakers.
  • Coordinate international advocacy campaigns and engagement activities.
  • Monitor and report on global education technology trends, policy changes, and emerging opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Government Affairs team to align international and domestic advocacy efforts.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Engage with a diverse set of stakeholders, including educators, parents, industry associations, and international partners.
  • Represent PowerSchool at meetings, conferences, and public hearings related to K-12 education technology.
  • Promote the company’s mission and commitment to improving education outcomes through technology.
  • Assist in building grassroots support and alliances to advance lobbying and advocacy goals.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with lobbying disclosure and regulatory requirements at the state and international levels.
  • Maintain organized records of advocacy materials, contacts, and activities.
  • Prepare reports on government relations and lobbying efforts, including progress updates and impact assessments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Law, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in legislative analysis, policy advocacy, or government relations.
  • Strong knowledge of K-12 education policies, legislation, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Exceptional research, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex policy issues clearly and effectively.
  • Proficiency in using legislative tracking tools, databases, and research resources.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with government officials and stakeholders.
  • Commitment to ethical and transparent government relations practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team and contribute to a positive work environment.

A reasonable estimate of the base compensation range for this position is $75,000 – $85,000. The compensation range is specific to the United States and incorporates many factors including but not limited to an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience and training; licensures, degrees, and certifications; internal equity; internal pay ranges; and market data/range parameters.
