The Lead Strategist

The Lead Strategist is an experienced digital campaigner who is passionate about politics and the media world. They have the ability to translate a client’s vision and goals into a top-flight digital program that includes digital advertising, email marketing, and social media. The Lead Strategist is responsible for overall strategy for assigned clients and client satisfaction. They oversee Associates and Account Managers in day-to-day implementation of their programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary strategist for multiple digital clients, such as campaigns, ballot initiatives, campaign committees, and nonprofits.
  • Work closely with clients and the client strategy team to understand each client’s unique messaging and strategy, translating that to relevant internal teams.
  • Actively develop relationships with clients and ensure all client interactions are timely, constructive, and professional.
  • Supervise management of financial and contractual aspects of projects, ensuring accurate client billing for production costs and media spend, appropriate use of insertion orders, and timely payment of vendors.
  • Accountable for key performance indicators and overall client satisfaction.
  • Present thoughtful analysis to clients on the performance of campaigns to inform strategy.
  • Oversee and contribute actively in the development of email, ad, and social concepts and calendars.
  • Actively track the overall trajectory of communications strategy on clients, advising Account Managers on how to incorporate larger news cycle trends into day-to-day work.
  • Supervise Account Managers’ client-facing work and train and coach junior staff as needed.
  • When staffing allows, serve as people managers to Account Managers and Associates.
  • Monitor broad industry trends and ensure that clients are utilizing industry best practices.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills Required

  • Demonstrated commitment to Democratic candidates and causes.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects when assigned.
  • Must have superior project and time management capabilities within a fast-paced, high productivity environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate and effectively communicate and solve practical problems or issues.
  • Experience running digital campaigns and working with common CRM and digital tools.
  • Able to work and communicate within a team structure while able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an emphasis on attention to detail.
  • Must be highly motivated, action-oriented, and client-focused.

Required Experience

  • Around 3+ years of relevant digital and/or marketing experience.
  • Political experience such as one election cycle of digital work at a campaign, party committee, or political action committee, or similar non-profit experience is desired.
  • Experience interfacing with multiple clients and managing junior staff is desired.
  • Competency with Mac and PC computers including troubleshooting and basic networking knowledge.

Relevant details

  • Salary band: $75,000 – $95,000

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • This is a full-time, exempt position and evening and weekend work can be expected at key points during the election cycle. This position is not included in our bargaining unit.
  • This position is based in our office in Washington, DC. This position will work a hybrid schedule, with two days a week in the office and three days remotely. All RTI employees are expected to be up-to-date on all COVID vaccinations and boosters.
