Summary

Discover The Palm Beaches is seeking an experienced, results-driven Public Relations professional to become our new Manager, Public Relations. This team member will hold a critical role in securing press coverage designed to celebrate tourism’s impact on the local economy, future tourism developments and communicate the significance of Groups, Meetings and Conventions in the destination. Additionally, this individual will support the reputation management of Discover The Palm Beaches amongst the local community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Director, Public Relations and Communications and U.S. Agency of Record, as well as other cross-functional internal teams.
  • Collaborate in the development of a comprehensive, measurable and strategic plan designed to secure earned media coverage in target publications and outlets, and drive awareness about the positive impact of tourism in The Palm Beaches.
  • Develop proactive, synergistic relationships with target journalists – emphasis on local, regional and national, while maintaining an up-to-date media list.
  • Write press releases, interview responses, speaking points, advertorials, award submissions, blogs and other relevant written materials while adhering to Brand Voice guidelines for leisure and meetings audiences.
  • Ability to review data and translate the information into compelling storylines that is easily understood by our audiences.
  • Field B2B media inquiries and provide counsel with thorough actionable recommendation/support.
  • Coordinate hosted media visits (FAMs) as needed.
  • Conduct desk-side media missions, in-person and virtually.
  • Monitor media coverage for DTPB and support monthly performance reporting requirements.
  • Attend select Group Sales meetings and site inspections to address PR opportunities.
  • Travel to and participate in industry trade shows and conferences, such as IMEX, PCMA, Cvent, PRSA’s Travel & Tourism Conference, etc., to advance industry knowledge, as well as secure and address on-site media opportunities.
  • Monitor expenditures; adheres to budgetary and expense management guidelines.
  • Align with Palm Beach County Tourism Development Council agencies, as needed.
  • Support and update, as needed, the DTPB Crisis Communications Plan.
  • Support critical projects as directed by Director, PR and Communications.

Qualifications, Education, Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in public relations, communications, public affairs, marketing, advertising, business, journalism, hospitality or similar field required.
  • 5+ years of PR experience with an agency and/or brand.
  • Experience with tourism, travel, development, investments and Groups and Meetings media a plus.
  • Experience with issues management and/or crisis response.
  • Proven track-record of securing press coverage.
  • Excellent written (AP Style), verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Positive attitude and a team player.
  • Ability to be detail-oriented in a multi-tasking production environment.
  • Urgency to meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to provide writing samples.
  • Occasional travel is required.

Work Environment

Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work for the Manager, Public Relations does require monitoring and engagement on weekends and during the evenings, with some business travel.
