Responsibilities
The Policy Analyst will work with the Director of Advocacy and Executive Director on legislative priorities. The Analyst will have the opportunity to work both individually and as part of a team on specific projects, including the development and implementation of a legislative campaign in support of waste prevention, plastic pollution, and recycling bills in the state legislature. Duties include:
- Research and analysis to support policy development
- Advocating before the State Legislature, at regulatory hearings, and stakeholder meetings
- Drafting position letters, public testimony, fact sheets, and policy papers
- Representing CAW in various coalitions, professional conferences, and public engagement events
- Working with the CAW team on communication and development needs
Qualifications
Successful candidates will be self-motivated, public-interest minded, organized, and detail-oriented, with good humor necessary among staff in a small office. Other qualifications include:
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Some familiarity with California legislative and regulatory landscape and process
- BA/BS degree in environmental studies, public policy, or a related field; knowledge of waste reduction or the legislative process is a plus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and online research tools
- Comfort with public speaking and engaging with diverse audiences
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
- Knowledge of California environmental and public policy is preferred
- Environmental commitment is a must
Compensation
Salary commensurate with experience: $40,000–$50,000 and $60,000–$72,000 annually. We offer a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, paid vacation, paid holidays, and sick time.
