This is hybrid position requiring 2 days per week (Tuesday and Wednesday) in-person in our Washington, DC office each week.
JOB SUMMARY
The Public Policy & Regulatory Affairs Senior Associate is responsible for a wide range of functions in support of AOA’s public policy goals to advance osteopathic medicine, promote access to and quality of healthcare, and develop a strong physician workforce.
The senior Associate will perform extensive research and writing to inform policy issues and initiatives. The health policy manager will provide broad support on AOA’s regulatory engagement on issues including, but not limited to:
Medicare physician payment and quality reporting
Digital health and health information technology policy
Private and public health insurance
Physician administrative burden reduction
The Senior Associate will independently manage projects related to:
The AOA Training in Policy Studies (TIPS) program, including coordinating meeting dates, identifying speakers, developing content, and serve as primary contact for the program
Developing educational resources such as conference presentations, webinars for continuing medical education, and written resources on policy and regulations
Identifying opportunities to nominate osteopathic physicians to federal advisory committees and coordinating the development of nomination packets
The role will also provide administrative support across public policy activities to support departmental programs. The role will provide broad support to Sr. Director of Regulatory Affairs, as well as the Vice President of Public Policy as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Monitors and analyzes regulatory developments within defined portfolio areas (CMS: physician payment, prior authorization; medical education and student loans; VA scope of practice; not limited to)
Drafting comment letters to agency proposed rules, presentations, web content, timely news updates, and other written communications on policy and advocacy issues
Draft educational resources to help members understand policy changes and how they will impact their practice, with considerations for practice management Conduct research to support work by AOA policy committees to develop policy, as well as to develop resources that promote AOA thought leadership on key issues
Provide administrative support for the Council on Economic and Regulatory Affairs and other projects, including dissemination of meeting invitations, processing registrations, preparation of meeting materials and minutes
Support AOA engagement with the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Editorial Panel and Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC)
Develop and maintain strong interdepartmental relationships with communications, membership, and other functions within the AOA
Serve as an information resource for AOA members on public policy
Represent the AOA at external meetings, and provide general support as needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION OR EXPERIENCE
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Public Health, Communications or related field.
Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in regulatory affairs, health policy, or a similar position. Experience with trade associations, federal agencies, or congressional committees preferred.
Licensure or Certification: NA.
Systems: High proficiency with computer programs and applications including MS Office and Adobe Acrobat.
Communications: Proven ability to prioritize multiple projects and to exercise appropriate level of discretion in completing prioritized projects. Excellent verbal and written communication skills which demonstrate the ability to independently analyze and simplify complex information and craft messages for a wide range of audiences.

Ability to work independently, sometimes with minimal supervision
Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate within and across teams is essential.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The AOA has a hybrid work environment, and staff work in-office 2 days per week. This position also requires the ability to work outside of the office locally (up to 10%) and out of state (up to 5%). This work may include weekday and weekend travel. Extended workday hours may be necessary around major meetings and other high-volume work periods.
Physical requirements include the ability to remain in a stationary position, the ability to move supplies and equipment up to 25 pounds and the ability to operate office equipment.

Salary Range: $90,000.00 – $105,000.00 annually
