Salary Range
$155,000.00 to $165,000.00 Annually
This position is considered Hybrid with an expectation to be in the D.C. office 1-3 times a week as well as meetings on the Hill. The compensation for this role will be based on experience within the given range on the job posting.
Summary
Working under the direction of the Senior Director of Congressional Affairs, the Senior Associate Director of Congressional Affairs will serve as the primary Republican liaison on Capitol Hill.
This position will be responsible for maintaining and building key relationships with policy makers and Congressional staff and other stakeholders. Additionally, this individual will monitor legislation, analyze policy impacts, develop advocacy strategies, and effectively communicate AANA’s positions. The Senior Associate Director will also be available for presentations at conferences and CRNA health policy classes. This role requires strong political acumen, communication, and analytical skills.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
- Legislative & Policy Monitoring: Track legislative developments at the federal level to identify issues impacting CRNA practice and AANA.
- Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain relationships with Republican members of Congress, congressional staff and external stakeholders to advance AANA strategic advocacy goals.
- Strategic Planning: Assist in the development and implementation of advocacy strategies including grassroots and PAC.
- Research & Analysis: Conduct research and prepare analysis on policy issues to support strategic planning and decision-making.
- Advocacy Materials: Draft advocacy materials, such as letters, memos, and testimony.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the organization at coalition meetings, congressional briefings, political action committee events, and other relevant meetings as assigned.
Experience & Skills
- Five years of experience in government affairs, preferably on Capitol Hill.
- Minimum of 1 year managing a team.
- Political Acumen: Strong understanding of legislative processes, government operations, and political environments.
- Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present complex information persuasively and concisely to diverse audiences.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze legislation to identify impacts and opportunities.
- Relationship Building: Proven ability to build rapport and trust with government officials, stakeholders, Congressional staff, and internal AANA teams.
- Strategic Thinking: Capacity to develop and execute strategies, align competing priorities, and make informed decisions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Education/Certifications/Licenses
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, government relations, or a related field.

Physical Requirements
Performs primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in an emergency situation.
