The Vice President of Government Affairs will lead the company’s state legislative and regulatory advocacy strategy. This role is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive national government relations program to advance the company’s interests in education policy, digital learning, instructional materials adoption, sales strategy, data privacy, and funding. The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of state-level policymaking, strong bipartisan relationships, and a proactive approach to shaping public policy in support of innovation in the K–12 education space.
Position Information:
This is a regular, full-time position, reporting to the Senior Vice President and General Counsel.
Compensation:
Base pay is anticipated to be between $179,000 and $195,000 per year. Eligible employees may also receive incentive/commission/annual bonus pay based on individual and/or company performance. Compensation may vary based on factors such as, but not limited to, individual skills, experience, training, education/certifications, geographic location, internal equity, and local market conditions.

In this US-based position your location will be remote.
Travel:
You can also expect to travel as needed, up to approximately 20-40%, so be sure you have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance and a clean driving record for at least the preceding 39 months.

Envision Your Experience.
In this role you’ll have the opportunity to:
- Develop and lead a multi-state government affairs strategy to support the adoption and responsible regulation of instructional materials and digital learning solutions.
- Develop and manage a national network of lobbyists focusing on education, including identifying issues and opportunities in state education-related legislation and coordinating a comprehensive strategy to achieve desired outcomes.
- Identify opportunities and risks in education policy and proactively shape state legislation and regulation.
- Coordinate policy positions across internal stakeholders including legal, product, sales, field operations, and marketing.
- Serve as the primary advocate for the company before state legislatures, education agencies, and governors’ offices, including testifying before legislative bodies when appropriate.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with key lobbying firms, policymakers, education coalitions, and advocacy groups at the state level.
- Participate in stakeholder working groups.
- Track and analyze state legislation, regulatory actions, budget proposals, and procurement trends affecting instructional materials adoption and edtech solutions.
- Provide timely insights and risk assessments to senior leadership on policy developments across the U.S.
- Build and manage a state-by-state legislative tracker and reporting system.
- Strategically partner with the sales leadership and team, field operations team, and marketing groups to ensure alignment of project priorities and initiatives.
- Coordinate with external consultants, lobbyists, and industry partners to execute state-level campaigns.
- Lead the development of talking points and educational materials to advance company priorities.
- Ensure compliance with lobbying disclosure and ethics rules across jurisdictions.
- Maintain accurate records of all lobbying activities and coordinate required filings.
Share Your Expertise.
Experience, education, and qualifications essential for success in this role, include:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Political Science, Public Policy, Education, or related field (Master’s or JD preferred).
- At least 7 years of experience in state government relations, ideally with exposure to high-impact state strategies.
- Deep understanding of K–12 policy, including digital learning, curriculum adoption, and school funding.
- Demonstrated success influencing education policy at the state level.
- Strong network of bipartisan relationships in state government and education circles.
- Ability to travel as needed (20–40%) to represent the company in state capitals and at conferences.
- Experience working in or with state legislatures, state departments of education, or state Governors’ offices. Multi-state experience preferred.
- Thought partnership and change champion to drive innovation and creative solutions across the organization.
- Excellent cross-functional leader who can work to align goals and objectives accordingly.
- Ability to accept organizational shifts and quickly changing priorities well.
- Successfully able to pivot as the dynamic market demands.
- Strong verbal, presentation, and written communications skills.
