Manager Government Relations

The Manager of Government Relations position supports Emerson’s interests in Washington, DC on a range of domestic and international policy issues and business development initiatives. Responsibilities include working with Emerson leadership, trade associations, agencies, Congress, and the White House on domestic policy including direct advocacy. The Manager will have primary responsibility for select issue areas. The position also drives Emerson’s international engagement in Washington and provides logistical support for executive visits and events.

FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED: 

• Coordinate and connect with Emerson management on public policy issues impacting them
• Develop member and staff level contacts with agencies and Congress.
• Participate in advocacy meetings with policymakers
• Research and prepare talking points and presentations for key issues
• Participate in meetings/committees of major trade associations to represent Emerson
• Collaborate with government relations team to appropriately respond to policy and related business development questions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU APART: 

• Undergraduate or Graduate degree with focus in public policy preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of previous Washington experience including staff positions on Capitol Hill, the Administration, corporate government affairs office, and/or trade association positions with increasing levels of responsibility, understanding of legislative process and relationship building
• Public policy or advanced degree with focus on public policy studies
• Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, strong public speaking and writing skills
• Legal authorization to work in the United States – Sponsorship will not be provided for this position.
