We are looking for passionate, committed, and innovative individuals. The Social Media Manager will join NCOA at a time of dynamic growth.
Position Summary
The Social Media Manager supports the growing needs of NCOA to engage followers on multiple social media platforms. The Social Media Manager is responsible for managing NCOA’s presence on all social media channels, including Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Threads, and Instagram, as well as new and emerging platforms. The Manager is responsible for strategically building a calendar of content for each platform with input from key internal stakeholders, posting and monitoring engagement, reporting on results, and recommending ways to build the organization’s presence digitally in support of our mission.
Positions at this level require advanced knowledge and experience managing projects and deliverables across departments. Incumbents are required to make independent judgments within their scope of work and require minimal oversight. Incumbents generally have five or more years of experience in their discipline and a bachelor’s degree or the equivalent. Graduate-level degrees may be considered in lieu of experience.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media:
- Sets the organization’s social media strategy, defining audiences and goals, and leading efforts to ensure all goals are met.
- Manages the day-to-day operations of NCOA’s social media platforms, including writing, posting, and scheduling content daily, and responding to comments.
- Develops and manages a comprehensive calendar for all NCOA social media content across all platforms, soliciting direct input from key internal stakeholders including:
- Digital: Promote relevant and new website content and tools, drive conversions, achieve goals of new and ongoing projects, and support paid media efforts
- Fundraising: Drive individual donations to boost unrestricted revenue
- Business Development: Identify and execute corporate partner social promotion opportunities
- Public Policy: Educate NCOA followers about policy issues and drive them to take action
- Marketing and Communications: Share branded messages, press releases, and media mentions
- Defines target audiences for each social platform and strategically works to build audiences and their engagement.
- Leads efforts to push social media audiences up the NCOA engagement ladder, developing them from passive users into active advocates and donors.
- Writes and produces engaging social posts that speak to individual followers and spur them to act, translating NCOA initiatives and policies in a way that connects with them.
- Identifies and supports opportunities to gather first-person data to clarify the needs and behaviors of core NCOA audiences.
- Serves as an in-house expert on social media communications and best practices.
- Supports NCOA staff and executives in building their professional social media presence.
- Provides training as needed for NCOA grantees on best practices in social media to achieve their goals and objectives.
- Collaborates with a graphic designer to create engaging social images, video, and animations that reflect channel best practices and the specific needs of NCOA’s core constituencies.
- Ensures NCOA social posts are compliant and optimized for modern user preferences.
- Stays current on new technologies, online communication systems, and digital strategies to help move NCOA to the cutting edge of online communications.
Metrics:
- Sets annual social media goals to build audiences and engagement on each platform and is responsible for meeting those goals.
- Regularly collects, analyzes, and reports on social media performance data with the goal of learning from and improving our efforts.
- Routinely uses data to recommend new tactics and adjusts strategies based on the data.
- Establishes benchmarks for social media performance relative to other nonprofits.

Professional Experience/Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of relevant experience is required; proven experience with social media content, engagement, community-building, and analytics.
- Strong communicator with impeccable writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Experience using cloud-based project management software.
- Proven experience in social media platform growth.
- Ability to understand and implement social media strategies in support of multi-channel campaigns to specific audiences.
- Proficiency in all major social media platforms, as well as scheduling/monitoring platforms such as Sprout, HootSuite, among others.
- Graphic design knowledge, ability to leverage creative assets, and experience using Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
- Customer service oriented.
- Knowledge of aging services issues a plus.
