Job Overview
LPL Financial is hiring a VP, Government Relations based in Washington, DC. This individual will report directly to the Executive Vice President, Chief Advocacy Officer, and will work closely with senior executives and legal counsel on broad legislative and regulatory assignments.
The Government Relations team, based in Washington, DC, develops and manages the company’s public policy, legislative, regulatory, and grassroots efforts. It coordinates with internal stakeholders to assess governmental risks and opportunities and determine the company’s position on key policy issues. The team includes members covering federal, state, and local advocacy, public policy, and grassroots advocacy.
As Director of Government Relations, the successful candidate will develop and execute comprehensive strategies for achieving LPL Financial’s public policy objectives, ensuring alignment with company priorities. This person will be responsible for building and reinforcing trusted relationships with Congress, the Administration, and key stakeholders to support and enhance the company’s public profile. This includes building and maintaining a network of validators through relationships with industry and third-party organizations that shape and influence public policy. This person will also align engagements and deliverables with the strategic and tactical goals of the government relations team and the company.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Planning and Implementation: Work with the Chief Advocacy Officer to develop strategic plans supporting the company’s long- and short-term goals. Implement, monitor, and adapt the plan as needed, including setting clear goals and other metrics.
- Policy, Legislative, and Regulatory Analysis: Stay current with trends to anticipate opportunities and risks. Evaluate pending legislation, policy, and regulations; determine impact on the company and industry; help develop the organization’s response.
- Brief Executives and Clients: Provide guidance and updates on legislative matters.
- Relationship Building: Foster positive relationships with government officials, staff, opinion leaders, third parties, and other stakeholders.
- Public Policy Influence: Monitor government initiatives and advocate for specific policies that advance company and client objectives.
- Representation: Represent the company at government forums and industry group meetings.
- PAC Representation: Represent the employees’ political action committee (PAC) at campaign fundraising events.
- Policy Briefings and Content Creation: Prepare policy briefings, testimony for legislative actions, and thought leadership documents. Draft hearing summaries and other content for LPL stakeholders.
- State Government Relations Coordination: Ensure alignment with the State Government Relations strategy.
- Networking: Build relationships with industry associations, academics, community leaders, and other stakeholders to stay current and advance company interests.
- Event Development: Plan in-district events and visits to headquarters by elected officials.
- Leadership Communication: Communicate directly with company leadership and clients.
- Data Measurement: Measure and analyze quantifiable data for future public policy planning.
- LPL Financial 50 State Network Support: Assist as needed.
- Advisor Fly-Ins Coordination: Manage logistics for LPL financial advisor fly-ins.
- Consultant Liaison: Coordinate with external consultants.
Requirements
- Experience: 6+ years in public policy, financial services, or politics preferred.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

Pay Range
$147,700.00 – $246,100.00
Actual base salary depends on factors including relevant skills, prior experience, education, internal peer salary comparisons, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
