Arnold & Porter is seeking two (2) Senior Policy Specialists for the Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group in the Washington, DC office.

These positions will work in multiple policy areas, including: appropriations, congressional investigations, education, energy, foreign sovereigns, financial services, national defense, tax, technology and communications, trade, and transportation. Other issues may arise as needed. While the practice group has a substantial number of professionals working in healthcare and life sciences policy, these open positions will not focus on those policy spaces.

The Legislative and Public Policy Practice Group is Chambers-rated as one of the top legislative practices at a national law firm. The group consists of approximately 40 professionals and operates in a high-energy, fast-paced environment that rewards initiative and teamwork in the pursuit of quality client service.

The primary focus of the group is on Congressional and regulatory advocacy on topics including:

Clients include globally recognized brands, Fortune 500 companies, leading associations, educational institutions, foundations, local government units, innovative start-ups, healthcare systems, foreign governments, and coalitions.

Trade and Technology Lobbying Team

The trade and technology lobbying team represents clients ranging from startups to large multinational companies. The Senior Policy Specialist position will work on various policy issues, including:

  • Trade and technology policy developments
  • Tariffs, export controls, and sanctions
  • Policies related to free trade agreements, the USMCA review, and trade enforcement efforts
  • Supporting antidumping and countervailing duty cases
  • Privacy and Section 230
  • Artificial intelligence
  • Appropriations
  • The National Defense Authorization Act
  • Related agency actions

Qualifications

Qualified candidates for this position must have:

  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in federal legislative and public policy roles, including work in Congress, the Executive Branch, a trade association, interest group, or corporate government relations.
  • A four-year degree with excellent academic credentials and references.
  • Registration as a lobbyist under the Lobbying Disclosure Act (required for all Senior Policy Specialists).

  • A 3-5 page writing sample on an advocacy-based topic of their choosing

Important: Submitting a writing sample of more than 5 pages or failing to submit a transcript will eliminate a candidate from consideration.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary for this position is $95,000 to $185,000. The actual salary offered will depend on various factors, including:

  • The applicant’s qualifications
  • Years of relevant experience
  • Level of education attained
  • Certifications or professional licenses held
  • If applicable, the location from which the applicant will perform the job
