## Executive Director
**Coalition for Sensible Public Records Access (CSPRA)**
### Position Overview
The Executive Director of the Coalition for Sensible Public Records Access (CSPRA) serves as the organization’s chief executive and lead advocate. This role is primarily responsible for advocacy and legislative support, strategic leadership and planning, association and member management, issue paper development, and communications and marketing, with deep subject‑matter expertise in U.S. state and federal privacy law (including data broker regulation), public records access, and FOIA.
Working in close coordination with the CSPRA Executive Committee, the Executive Director advances CSPRA’s mission by shaping policy positions, executing lobbying strategies, supporting and engaging members, and positioning CSPRA as a trusted authority on sensible public records access and privacy policy.

## Core Responsibilities
### Advocacy & Legislative Support
• Serve as CSPRA’s primary advocate and representative before state and federal legislatures, regulatory agencies, and policy bodies.
• Formulate and execute lobbying strategies aligned with CSPRA priorities and Executive Committee direction.
• Track, analyze, and interpret state and federal legislation and regulations related to:
o Public records access
o FOIA and transparency laws
o Privacy law, with emphasis on data broker regulation and oversight
• Prepare and deliver legislative testimony, written comments, advocacy letters, and position statements.
• Conduct legislative visits and briefings and maintain relationships with policymakers, regulators, and staff.
• Monitor policy trends and emerging issues and provide timely analysis and reporting to members and leadership.
### Strategic Leadership & Planning
• Provide strategic leadership to advance CSPRA’s mission, policy goals, and long‑term impact.
• Work with the Executive Committee to develop and implement strategic plans, advocacy priorities, and annual objectives.
• Identify emerging legal, regulatory, and political developments affecting public records access and privacy.
• Represent CSPRA in coalitions, alliances, and collaborative advocacy efforts with aligned organizations.
• Manage administrative operations, including scheduling, recordkeeping, and coordination of organizational activities.
### Association & Member Management
• Serve as the primary point of contact and policy resource for CSPRA members.
• Lead member engagement and support, ensuring members are informed, involved, and represented in CSPRA advocacy efforts.
• Support member participation in committees, workgroups, and policy discussions.
• Facilitate meetings, briefings, and forums that advance member understanding of legislative and regulatory developments.
• Gather and incorporate member input to inform CSPRA policy positions and advocacy strategies.
### Issue Paper Development & Policy Analysis
• Lead the development of issue papers, policy briefs, white papers, and formal CSPRA positions.
• Conduct or oversee legal and legislative research and analysis related to public records, FOIA, privacy, and data broker laws.
• Ensure CSPRA policy materials are accurate, well‑reasoned, timely, and aligned with member interests and organizational priorities.
• Coordinate with subject‑matter experts and external contributors as needed.
### Communications & Marketing
• Direct CSPRA’s communications and marketing efforts in support of advocacy and member engagement.
• Draft and oversee advocacy communications, including policy alerts, legislative updates, formal letters, and public statements.
• Serve as a CSPRA spokesperson when appropriate, responding to media inquiries and public issues.
• Manage messaging to ensure CSPRA is consistently positioned as a credible, authoritative voice on public records access and privacy policy.
• Support outreach efforts to grow awareness, influence, and membership.

## Required Expertise & Experience
• Demonstrated experience in legislative advocacy, lobbying, or government relations.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. state and federal privacy law, including data broker regulation, and public records/FOIA frameworks.
• Proven ability to develop and communicate policy analysis, issue papers, and advocacy positions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience working with or leading associations, coalitions, or member‑based organizations.
• Ability to operate effectively in a high‑visibility, policy‑driven executive role.
