## Policy and Membership Associate
### Organization Overview
The Texas Private Schools Association (TPSA), founded in 1967, serves as the public voice for private schools in Texas. TPSA represents over 1,200 accredited private schools educating more than 300,000 students statewide.
Our mission is to advocate for the independence and autonomy of Texas private schools, ensuring they have the freedom to fulfill their unique missions and meet the diverse educational needs of families. TPSA actively engages with policymakers at both the state and federal levels on issues including health and safety, student privacy, curriculum standards, admissions policies, and school choice initiatives such as Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA).
### Position Summary
The Policy and Membership Associate reports to the Executive Director and supports TPSA’s policy, advocacy, and membership initiatives. This role works closely with legislators and the policy community and contributes to legislative tracking, member engagement, and organizational operations.
The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, proactive, and interested in education policy and advocacy. This position requires the ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative, small‑team environment. Occasional evening and weekend work, as well as travel, may be required.

## Responsibilities
### Policy and Advocacy Support
– Track and analyze legislation relevant to private education
– Prepare bill summaries, position papers, and advocacy materials
– Support government relations efforts, including coalition building and stakeholder engagement
– Monitor and communicate updates on key issues such as school choice (TEFA), school safety, privacy, and regulatory policy
– Represent TPSA at meetings, hearings, and events as needed
### Membership Engagement and Support
– Assist with membership recruitment, retention, and engagement strategies
– Coordinate member communications, including newsletters, webinars, and events
### Operations and Administration
– Provide administrative support, including document preparation, data management, payment processing, and meeting coordination
– Support board and committee activities, including preparing materials and tracking follow‑up actions
– Assist with event planning, special projects, and daily operations
### Additional Responsibilities
– Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director in support of TPSA’s mission

## Qualifications
### Key Skills Needed
– Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, education, nonprofit management, or a related field
– Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and persuasively
– Highly organized with strong attention to detail and project management skills
– Proactively identifies priorities and addresses needs before they arise
– Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and collaborate effectively
– Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard collaboration tools
– Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and commitment to TPSA’s mission
### Other Skills
– Experience in policy analysis, government relations, education advocacy, or related fields
– Familiarity with the Texas legislative process
– Experience in membership services, association management, or nonprofit organizations
– Knowledge of school choice programs and other issues affecting private education
