About This Role

The Government Relations Associate Director plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the government relations strategy for this leading brand. This position involves working closely with government officials, policymakers, and other stakeholders to advocate for the organization’s interests and objectives. This role will be responsible for monitoring legislative and regulatory developments, building and maintaining relationships with key government representatives, and effectively communicating the organization’s positions on various policy matters.

The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to protect and advance our business interests with government agencies and associations in North America. This position is located in Palm Beach Gardens, FL, or work remotely in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

Government Relations Strategy

Develop and implement a comprehensive government relations strategy that aligns with the organization’s goals and priorities.

Policy Analysis

Monitor legislative and regulatory proposals at the local, state, and federal levels, and provide in-depth analysis of their potential impact on the organization.

Advocacy and Lobbying

Build and maintain relationships with government officials, legislators, fire industry associations, emergency service authorities, and regulatory agencies to advance the organization’s interests and advocate for favorable policies, funding, and regulatory change.

Legislative Outreach

Represent the organization at government hearings, meetings, and events to articulate its positions and influence decision-makers. Includes adequate representation at code committees (e.g., IBC, ICC, IFC, NFPA, UL, NASFM, etc.).

Coalition Building

Collaborate with industry associations, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders to build coalitions and alliances that amplify the organization’s advocacy efforts.

Compliance and Reporting

Ensure compliance with all relevant lobbying and reporting requirements, including filing necessary reports and disclosures as required by law and company policy.

Communications

Educate the organization on regulatory changes and ensure company messaging is consistently transmitted to all relevant audiences – including the general public, community leaders, elected officials, media, organizations, and industry associations.

Facilitate Execution

Work closely with internal strategy, product management, marketing, trade, and sales teams to enable execution of updated regulations.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of experience in Government Relations, including lobbying elected officials and community leaders, grassroots advocacy, and legislative and regulatory issues

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, government relations, or a related field
  • A master’s degree is a plus
  • Experience with safety product management or safety product advocacy
  • Ability to quickly grasp technical fluency in Kidde’s products and proficiency in new, developing technologies and their usage
  • Practical knowledge of fire safety technology, fire sciences, and emergency management would be advantageous
  • Demonstrated successful track record of influencing and advocating Government Relations and industry associations to tilt the market in favor of our brands
  • Outstanding leadership and communication capacities to work in a matrix and multidimensional organization
  • Ability to analyze and communicate complex policy matters
  • Openness and agility to learn and collaborate with others with a focus on results
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with government officials, policymakers, and industry stakeholders
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and execute effective government affairs strategies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate the organization’s positions clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences
  • Ability to remotely interact with key stakeholders globally
  • A strong relationship with the fire industry associations such as NFPA is a plus
