The Position
The Director of State Government Affairs will provide direction, coordination, and execution of State Policy and Government Affairs initiatives and advocacy efforts related to Organon’s U.S. objectives. This role has direct responsibility for policy and advocacy in states in the Northeast and other key areas, providing analysis and engagement with the Worldwide Government Affairs and Policy team, the broader Global External Affairs organization, and the U.S. commercial organization.
Responsibilities also include advancing Organon’s relationships with key external stakeholders (both governmental and non-governmental) that influence public policy, providing counsel about possible courses of action, and identifying key external engagement opportunities on policy. The position will also provide direction and perspective for Organon’s political programs (PAC and grassroots) and collaborate with Federal Policy, Global Policy, and Communications in furtherance of Organon’s initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Implement public policy positions and advocacy strategy consistent with the company’s business and public policy objectives as part of the U.S. Policy and Government Affairs Team.
- Manage state government advocacy activities covering states in the northeastern and central regions of the U.S.
- Represent Organon in key states, with additional regional coverage as needed.
- Manage interactions with state public officials, including legislative and executive branch officials and staff, as well as relevant external stakeholders.
- Partner with Organon’s U.S. Federal Relations, Global Communications, Legal, Commercial, Market Access, and other internal stakeholders on coordinated issues.
- Manage external consultants, policy development projects, and budgets.
- Ensure compliance with all state agencies, laws, rules, and regulations concerning lobbying and campaign contributions.
- Represent Organon in external-facing roles, including trade associations and third-party organizations.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
- Education: BS/BA required; Master’s or graduate degree preferred.
- Experience:
- At least four years of experience in State Government Affairs and/or State Policy role in the biopharmaceutical industry.
- At least eight years of experience managing U.S. state government affairs issues and healthcare policy activities in multiple states, with a minimum of five years in the biopharmaceutical industry.
- Proven ability to develop and execute public policy and state legislative strategy.
- Experience analyzing state legislation and regulations.
- Strong relationship-building skills with high-level executives in healthcare and/or state government.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Strong understanding of state coverage and reimbursement systems.
- Preferred Location: Northeast / Mid-Atlantic.

Salary and Benefits (U.S. Positions Only)
Under various U.S. state laws, Organon is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this job. Final salary determinations consider factors such as primary work location, relevant skills, education level, and prior work experience.
Annualized Salary Range (U.S.): $168,000.00 – $285,800.00
