Job Summary

The Maritime Policy Coordinator, in consultation with CLIA Members, recommends, develops, presents, and negotiates industry positions on legislative, regulatory and policy matters involving ship design and operations; safety; security; training and labor affairs; as well as other matters impacting the cruise industry as directed by the Vice President, Maritime Policy.

Essential Job Functions

  • In collaboration with other members of the Global Maritime Policy Team, develops, coordinates, and presents CLIA policy and negotiated industry positions to and with international, federal, and state regulatory and rule-making bodies, industry associations, and other external stakeholders in professional seminars and other venues, as necessary.
  • Coordinates efforts on relevant maritime policy matters internally, with CLIA Members, and with other industry associations and external stakeholders, as appropriate.
  • Participates in and assists with facilitation and management of CLIA delegations to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and other relevant international organizations, including engaging with officials to inform the debate on relevant matters and to advance industry positions.
  • Facilitates, in collaboration with other Maritime Policy staff, relevant Committee, Working Group, and other similar group meetings.
  • Coordinates with other associations and organizations in dealing with cruise industry matters that are also of interest to those segments of the shipping industry.
  • Participates in Federal Advisory committee and other public meetings as appropriate.
  • Assists with matters directly associated with management of the Maritime Policy team, including facilitating internal coordination and developing newsletter and website content.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Technical training and experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously.
  • Background and experience in relevant aspects of shipboard operations, engineering, ship design and construction is preferred.
  • Basic proficiency in MS Office applications.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s level degree.
  • 0-4+ years of job-related experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Environment

This position is based in our DC office as part of a hybrid work environment with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.

While on work-related travel, there are often obligations outside of normal business hours (e.g., evening meetings and presentations, networking receptions, etc.).

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Required Travel

Approximately 25% of time is spent on work-related travel, including international travel.

Salary Description

$70,000 – $80,000
