### Trust for America’s Health (TFAH) – Senior Government Relations Manager

Trust for America’s Health (TFAH), a leading public health policy, research, and advocacy organization, seeks a talented, experienced, and highly motivated Senior Government Relations Manager. This position will work with the Director of Government Relations to develop and execute legislative, administration, and regulatory activities primarily within TFAH’s infectious disease prevention and public health data portfolio. TFAH is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that promotes optimal health for every person and community and makes the prevention of illness and injury a national priority. TFAH is committed to making prevention and health equity foundational to policymaking at all levels of society. Some focus areas at TFAH include public health funding and infrastructure, public health preparedness, obesity, health equity, substance misuse and suicide, and population health.

### Core Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Government Relations, core responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

– In collaboration with the Director, develop strategy to achieve policy goals within assigned portfolio.
– Develop and manage legislative and regulatory activities related to assigned portfolio.
– Develop and advance funding priorities related to assigned portfolio. Monitor the budget and appropriations process, including drafting appropriations backgrounders, testimony, hearing questions, and report language.
– Secure and lead Congressional and Administration meetings to advance assigned portfolio. Represent TFAH at hearings, issue briefings, and related activities to advance assigned portfolio.
– Initiate and maintain relationships with members of Congress and their staff and executive branch officials to provide input into priorities and to build support for assigned portfolio in Congress and the Administration.
– Prepare background materials, advocacy documents, testimony, draft legislation, regulatory comments, hearing questions, and external correspondence for policymakers and their staff.
– Prepare background materials, testimony, external correspondence, and talking points for TFAH staff.
– Lead and/or participate in partner coalition(s) working to advance policy goals within assigned portfolio.
– Establish and maintain a network of contacts with other organizations, building partnerships to advance policy goals within assigned portfolio.
– Work with the Communications and Policy Research Team and Policy Development Team on relevant reports and products, helping to craft content and provide information on key relevant government programs, policies, and funding.
– Design content and secure speakers for Congressional briefings pertaining to assigned portfolio.
– Participate in panel discussions and presentations at external meetings and events.
– Manage TFAH’s health security newsletter.

### Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess many of the following professional and personal abilities, attributes, and experiences:

– 8-10 years of direct federal legislative and/or regulatory experience. Capitol Hill or federal advocacy experience preferred, and background in public health a plus.
– Master’s degree (in public health, political science, public policy, or related field) or J.D.
– Extensive working knowledge of the federal legislative and regulatory process.
– Knowledge of the use of technology and information systems to build broad-based support for policy issues.
– Excellent communication skills (interpersonal, written, and verbal) including public speaking.
– Excellent organizational skills, the ability to think logically, and pay close attention to details.
– Ability to understand research and present complex concepts to audiences with limited public health background.
– Ability to organize and partner with grassroots and professional constituencies in support of policy goals.
– Ability to work with minimum supervision.
– Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
– Ability to work both independently and within a team with confidence and reliability.
– Commitment to a nonpartisan approach and the gravitas and maturity to engage with diverse audiences and perspectives.

### Compensation

– Salary range is $110,000-$135,000 annually. Individual salary is based on various factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, education, and other qualifications.

– We have a hybrid work environment, providing staff with flexibility that supports productivity while meeting the needs of our diverse team. This position is based in Washington, DC and can telework up to three days per week.
