As the Director of Rapid Response and Political Communications, you will work directly with Americans for Prosperity (AFP), the nation’s leading grassroots advocacy and accountability organization, to drive AFP’s key messages each day, react to breaking news, and insert AFP’s voice into fast-moving narratives. In close collaboration with other members of the team, this individual will take a campaign war-room approach to leading an aggressive day-to-day messaging and communications strategy across the organization.
This role is housed within the Stand Together Communications team, which exists to empower those dedicated to the betterment of themselves and others. Americans for Prosperity helps advance those shared goals by elevating voices of millions of Americans across the country to improve lives by changing policy.

Your Responsibilities Include

  • Develop and drive real-time rapid response communications and earned media strategy that advance the organization’s overall positioning and communications goals
  • Reinforce powerful policy and political messages, storylines, and narratives, in coordination with the broader AFP communications team
  • Work with AFP and AFP Action political and research teams to identify and capitalize on fast-moving opportunities to drive key messages
  • Elevate AFP and AFP Action into fast-moving news cycles on priority issues
  • Coordinate and work with partners across the integrated marketing and communications team and vendors to provide guidance on digital, content, research, event, and partnership needs.
  • Pro-actively pitch and place stories in national, state, and local news outlets
  • Cultivate relationships with key media outlets and reporters
  • Work with key stakeholders to develop messages, press releases, statements, and other communications materials necessary to best position the organization

Knowledge And Skills You Bring To The Organization

  • At least 10 years’ experience in strategic communications, public relations, or political campaigns
  • Experience developing and driving rapid response communications and earned media strategies
  • Exposure reinforcing powerful policy and political messages, storylines, and narratives
  • Experience pitching and placing stories in national, state, and local news outlets while cultivating relationships with key media outlets and reporters
  • Experience conceiving and leveraging strategic relationships with internal and external partners
  • Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to influence at multiple levels of the organization
  • Proven ability to think ahead, problem solve, engage proactively and take initiative
  • Strong decision-making skills and ability to weigh risk / reward in high-pressure environments
  • Ability to shape and harness qualitative and quantitative research to drive good economic decision-making
  • Strong analytical skill set, capable of analyzing and reacting to results-oriented data
  • Excellent persuasive writing, editing and verbal communications skills, including presentation skills
