Issue One is helping lead the fight to protect U.S. elections and election workers in 2024 and beyond, ensure a peaceful transfer of power in 2025, and win comprehensive reforms to combat mis-, dis- and malinformation on technology platforms. Issue One built the National Council on Election Integrity (NCEI) and led its $15 million Count Every Vote Campaigns to defend the integrity of the 2020 elections and push back against attempts to undermine confidence in our democratic process.
Over the past several years, Issue One has become home to one of the largest bipartisan coalitions of its kind to advocate for solutions to fix our democracy. We are poised to continue our outsized impact. This position is key in helping us continue our “punch above our weight” mentality. The position is based in Washington, D.C., and requires working in our downtown office every Tuesday and Wednesday.
Position:
The Election Protection Associate role involves supporting the development and execution of the Faces of Democracy campaign and the NCEI, with a focus on expanding membership and conducting research on election integrity. Responsibilities include administrative support, project management, and contributing to strategic communications campaigns to boost public confidence in elections. The role also involves representing the team in both internal and external meetings, contributing to efforts that advocate for democracy reforms.
Responsibilities:
- Support the development and logistical planning of the Faces of Democracy campaign and the NCEI, focusing on membership expansion through proactive outreach and detailed research.
- Conduct thorough research on election protection and integrity initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of the Election Protection (EP) program.
- Take the lead on providing administrative support and managing projects for the EP team.
- Contribute to creating and executing dynamic communications campaigns aimed at boosting public confidence in the 2024 elections and advocating for increased federal election funding.
- Represent the EP team at a variety of meetings, both within the organization and with external partners.
Job-Related Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as political science, public administration, communications, or related disciplines, underscoring a strong foundation in the essentials of our work.
- At least 2 years of professional experience, inclusive of internships, showcasing a commitment and capacity in the spheres of research, communications, and advocacy.
- Preferred background in campaign strategy and execution, highlighting a deep understanding of public engagement tactics.
- Legislative experience is desirable, offering insight into the complexities of policy-making and governmental processes.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with senior leadership in managing relationships, reflecting excellent interpersonal skills.
- Proven competence in navigating high-stakes environments, ideally evidenced by past involvement in election protection initiatives or related advocacy efforts, underscoring a dedication to preserving the integrity of our democratic processes.

Structure and Location:
This is a full-time, salaried, fully benefited position requiring 40 hours per week. This position is required to be in the Washington, DC area.

Tentative Recruitment Timeline:
- April 2-14: The position is posted, and resumes are collected
- April 15-19: Resumes are screened, and phone screens are scheduled.
- April 22-26: Phone screens take place, and first-round panel interviews are scheduled.
- May 6-10: First-round panel interviews take place, and finalists are named.
- May 13-17: Second-round panel interviews with finalists take place along with paid assessment (if needed).
- May 20-24: Preferred candidate named and the role offered (contingent on a background check and verification of all educational credentials).
