Overview

The Atlantic Council is seeking a collaborative, strategic, and creative problem-solver who thrives on analytics and has a passion for storytelling. The Deputy Director, Digital Marketing will create and implement data-driven strategies for the website, evergreen social media campaigns, and email marketing campaigns that will help increase engagement and expand audience reach.

This position will own audience curation and grow sustained engagement through compelling, creative tactics while positioning Atlantic Council’s brand, mission, and work as esteemed, credible, and trusted. This role is primarily responsible for developing data-driven marketing strategies across channels, producing email content, promoting and managing programs and events marketing, and other marketing needs across the organization.

The Deputy Director, Digital Marketing role works with all Council centers from fundraising to stakeholder/program engagement, and corporate communications. The position will also be responsible for executing marketing around the Council’s flagship events which include the Distinguished Leadership Awards, Global Citizen Awards, and Global Energy Forum.

This role would hold the supervisory position over the Assistant Director, Email Marketing, Web Content Manager, and Digital Analytics Specialist.

This position will report directly to the Director, Digital and Data.

The Deputy Director, Digital Marketing will have a hybrid work model that supports a blend of in-office (work out of the Atlantic Council’s offices in Washington, D.C) and telework. Pay is commensurate with experience, education, and organizational equity, with offers starting at $93,000.

Job Responsibilities

  • Execute and lead a cohesive digital marketing plan to align with the overall marketing strategy and business goals.
  • Create and lead the strategy for promoting events, evergreen campaigns, digital products, publications, and newsletters.
  • Build processes on digital marketing tactics including email marketing, social media, etc., to ensure broad coverage and a consistent audience experience across platforms.
  • Oversee the design and maintenance of the company website as a digital marketing tool.
  • Work with internal and external partners to improve efficiency across digital channels.
  • Lead marketing campaign creation and data management across Marketo and Salesforce.
  • Identify areas of opportunity to build the Council’s visibility and enhance its reputation.
  • Act as in-house expert on marketing trends, platforms, and tools.
  • Oversee digital analytics and reporting.
  • Perform A/B testing in newsletters and other email communications.
  • Take the lead on CRM and listserv curation.
  • Work closely with Digital Analytics Specialist to monitor website traffic and KPIs.
  • Draft copywriting content for digital promotion.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the digital marketing campaign calendar, ensuring timely and relevant content publication, and coordinating with various teams and stakeholders across Atlantic Council centers.
  • Oversee marketing efforts for flagship events, ensuring effective promotion and maximum outreach to relevant audiences.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to the Assistant Director, Email Marketing, Digital Analytics Specialist, and Web Content Manager fostering their professional growth and aligning their work with the Council’s overall marketing objectives.
  • Collaborate with different teams within Atlantic Council, including fundraising, stakeholder/program engagement, and corporate communications, to align marketing efforts with organizational goals and ensure consistent messaging.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends and best practices in digital marketing, social media, and audience engagement, and apply this knowledge to continuously improve the Council’s digital marketing strategies.
  • Responsible for completing all organizational administrative responsibilities in a timely manner and meeting all organizational administrative deadlines.
  • Conduct audience research and testing to better understand our key strategic audiences and engage them effectively.
  • Connect platform and team needs to the creation or acquisition of digital tools.
  • Resolve complex issues independently within program areas and organizational priorities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education And Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Marketing Communications, or Digital Media.
  • Minimum 7 years of digital marketing experience on SEO, paid media, email, search web management, or related field.
  • Experience in WordPress and Google Analytics.
  • Ability to keep current with digital marketing trends.
  • Experience with Monday.com, Hootsuite, and Sprout Social.
  • Proven knowledge of digital tools, marketing automation platforms, and CRM systems including Salesforce, Hubspot, and Marketo.
  • Previous experience mentoring, developing, and leading a diverse, high-performing team that embodies the ethos of the Council culture and delivers on our mission.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
  • Prior working experience in the non-profit/think tank industry is a plus.
