Director of Program Communications – Southern Environmental Law Center

Position Type: Full-Time, Exempt

Primary Responsibilities:

Manage a Team: Lead, motivate, set objectives, and manage team performance of 8.5, including direct management of 7 full-time communications managers.

Develop and Execute Strategy: Create and implement a comprehensive communications strategy, aligning with broader SELC strategic initiatives. Ensure prioritization across program communications to support SELC’s programmatic and organizational goals.

Collaboration and Leadership: Work as part of the Communications leadership team. Collaborate with other directors (digital, geospatial, marketing, and design) to set team direction, ensuring coordination and strong collaboration across communications team areas.

Budget and Resource Management: Manage program communications budget and resources. Ensure consistent and effective project delivery within set priorities and timelines.

Strategic Leadership: Provide leadership, strategic direction, and proactively identify opportunities for efficiency, streamlined operations, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 10+ years of communications experience with a deep understanding of advocacy-oriented communications.
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience, managing individuals in-person and remotely.
  • Commitment to environmental, climate, and environmental justice issues.
  • Expertise in budget and resource management, coordinating across SELC state offices and program teams.
  • Creative and strategic thinker with excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience engaging with diverse audiences and tailoring communication strategies.
  • Familiarity with climate change and energy issues.

Compensation & Benefits:

Competitive salaries, excellent benefits package. Starting salary range: $122,500 – $144,100. SELC is a PSLF eligible employer. Relocation reimbursement available.
