About Milken Institute Philanthropy

MI Philanthropy advises individuals and foundations and corporations on the most strategic ways to ensure their philanthropic investments make an equitable, transformative impact, and offers tools and recommendations for making philanthropy more effective. Much of our work at MI Philanthropy is divided into three distinct programs: catalyzing action, advancing science and health solutions, and environment and social change philanthropy.

About the Position

We are looking for a senior associate to support MI Philanthropy’s marketing and communications efforts. A self-starting senior associate has the potential to play an important role in executing our communications and marketing activities, and in shaping the communications strategies of our programmatic work.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with program and project leads to support communications needs for projects in our portfolio which include, but are not limited to, science, medical research, health, environment and social change topics.
  • Support activities related to internal and external communications, including but not limited to social media management, newsletter development, preparing polished PPT presentations, writing content for social and earned media, updating website language, and monitoring and evaluating communications activities.
  • Lead project management for our marketing and communications activities across the portfolio, performing quality control and keeping tasks organized and on track.
  • Contribute to marketing and communications, thought leadership, events, and convenings related to MI Philanthropy’s programmatic work.

Professional Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full-time work experience in communications and marketing.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office Skills, particularly PPT and Excel.
  • Background in communications for health and science is a plus.

  • Detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to drive forward projects, manage multiple deadlines and troubleshoot issues.
  • Curiosity and creativity that can be and has been applied to learning new subjects quickly, and communicating about them with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to track and manage multiple and sometimes competing tasks and projects.
  • Ability to stay cool under pressure, and give and receive feedback constructively.
  • Personal attitude that includes being entrepreneurial, collaborative, action-oriented, flexible, positive, problem-solving, and willing to adapt to changing situations.

Academic Qualifications and Technical Skills

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field, such as communications, marketing.
  • Strong written and communications skills, including the ability to communicate complex topics in a clear manner.
  • High level of computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office suite, WordPress and other web-based communications tools.
  • Excellent PowerPoint Skills.

Working Conditions & Travel Requirements

This position will work in a professional office environment. This person will also be required to travel occasionally to other offices and/or venues to assist with events as needed, requiring occasional work outside of traditional hours. International along with domestic travel is possible.

Note: We are interested in qualified candidates who are eligible to work in the United States. Please note, we are not sponsoring visas at this time, being authorized to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment.

This position will be working a hybrid model, where you will be expected to report to your respective office location 3-days per week (Tuesday – Thursday), this is subject to change.
