Job Summary

Oversee strategic, regulatory, and advocacy communications programs to achieve PSEG Nuclear’s business goals and enhance its reputation. The role is responsible for supporting communications in campaigns that leverage traditional and new channels to advance nuclear objectives and regulatory goals at the local, state, and federal levels. Success requires working across a matrixed organization to engage a broad range of internal and external stakeholders strategically. The individual will work closely with the Corporate Communications group, station plant managers, executive leadership team, and other key stakeholders across the company.

THE ROLE

  • Working on-site and across the state, partner with senior leaders at Hope Creek and Salem and the nuclear executive leadership team to oversee the development and implementation of communications that raise awareness of PSEG Nuclear’s achievements.
  • Collaborate with station leadership and workforce members to present nuclear performance, deliver strategic messages, and promote nuclear safety culture attributes.
  • Communicate policy positions, work with the communications team and key internal stakeholders.
  • Design and develop advocacy platforms that leverage traditional and new communication strategies to reach, inform, and mobilize key audiences to amplify key messages.
  • Oversee the development of internal communication tools such as Nuclear Online, weekly alignment messages, talking points, leadership messages, presentations for INPO, NRC, NSRB, etc., briefing documents, and digital content that effectively engage various audiences.
  • Advise business partners, executives, and stakeholders on communication approaches that nurture relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Anticipate and mitigate issues and crises, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to respond.
  • Collaborate and align with Corporate Communications around external media opportunities specific to Nuclear.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with Corporate Communications on branding, look and feel to ensure consistency and alignment.
  • Monitor performance and optimize tactics to improve performance.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development of high-quality written content (business plans, alignment messages, FYI, Pipeline, the Link, and other digital assets, talking points, fact sheets). Partner on-site with key senior leadership team members to develop & deliver strategic messages.
  • Develop strategic communications plans to support nuclear focus areas and deliver to PSEG Nuclear using various platforms and technology.
  • Advise and counsel internal partners, senior leaders, and executives on communications strategy, content, and relevant materials (manage up and manage down). Support senior leaders with A-V technology to assist in delivering key messages and engage the nuclear workforce members.
  • Oversee the energy & environmental resource center, exhibits, and the educational outreach program for PSEG Nuclear.
  • Manage visitor access to nuclear, including local students, scouts, teachers, adult groups, and policymakers to support teaching strategies for balancing energy demand with environmental stewardship.
  • Manage branding, signage, messaging across nuclear and network with other nuclear communications groups across the industry for best practices in data use and analysis, results reporting, performance measurements, benchmarking, technology use, and budgeting.
  • Oversee emergency news center operations in partnership with state (NJ and DE) and local agencies, corporate communications, and the emergency preparedness group to deliver/coordinate emergency operations response communications.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required:

  • BS Journalism or Media Relations or Business with at least 10 years of relevant work experience, or in lieu of a degree, 12 years of relevant work experience in the communications field, including experience in developing, leading, and executing communication strategies, and working with senior leaders.
  • Communications skills: Possess an excellent understanding of multiple communications disciplines, from thought leadership and executive communications to crisis communications to consumer affairs; an excellent writer with a demonstrated ability to tell stories with a journalistic approach that grabs attention and engages our target audiences; digital-savvy with experience in content creation and storytelling; deep understanding of the communications landscape and the ability to reach and engage a broad spectrum of audiences.
  • Public affairs skills: Significant experience in the public affairs/regulatory space with experience in state government (New Jersey preferred).
  • Thinking/behavior required: Able to understand complex/industry topics and business strategy and translate both into compelling, relatable messaging; strong collaborator, able to partner across a mix of constituents, work settings, and organizations; Have a track record of building strong relationships with a highly matrixed group of stakeholders and the ability to manage up and down; A pragmatic thinker, experienced in advising and working with senior leaders.
  • Valid US Driver’s license
