About the Role

Position Title/Job Function: Social Media Associate

Position Objective: Promote the Physicians Committee’s campaigns, scientific studies, books, conferences, and videos in digital and social media. Create social media posts that help team members reach new and diverse followers for our campaigns and educational programs.

About the Communications Team

The Physicians Committee’s communications team works to maximize publicity for our campaigns, programs, and research studies through traditional and social media. The team oversees all media relations, social media, videos, advertising, digital marketing, and website management for the organization.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and execute social media strategies across platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube
  • Coordinate social media graphics and videos to stay current with trends
  • Manage existing social media pages and introduce new pages as trends shift
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to integrate social media into broader marketing campaigns
  • Research social media trends and inform the team of changes
  • Implement best practices to grow social media accounts
  • Track and analyze social media metrics to measure success and identify areas for improvement
  • Keep the holiday and food day calendar up to date and schedule correlating posts
  • Engage with followers, influencers, and celebrities on platforms
  • Monitor social media accounts, including responding to comments and messages

Office work plus the ability to travel to events

Work Location

This is a full-time position that may be performed remotely from any location in the United States. Candidates in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area are preferred.

Approximately quarterly to support events

Work Schedule

This is a full-time exempt position (40+ hours per week). Core business hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday. This position involves occasional weekend posting and quarterly evening/weekend event attendance.

Salary

Salary range: $65,000 – $68,000. Candidates are encouraged to discuss salary with the hiring manager early in the interview process.

  • Supervisor: Video and Communications Specialist
  • Department Director: Vice President of Communications

Qualifications

Required:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • A minimum of one year of experience
  • Knowledge of Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and Threads and their trends
  • Experience with management of social media pages
  • Experience with copywriting for graphics and social media captions

Preferred:

  • A minimum of three years of experience
  • Nonprofit experience is a plus

  4. 15-minute video interview with Physicians Committee President Dr. Neal Barnard
  5. Reference checks with the most recent direct supervisor and two other professional references
