Role Overview
Blueprint Biosecurity is seeking a full-time Policy Analyst or Senior Policy Analyst to join our government affairs team. Reporting to the Government Affairs Director, this role will develop new biosecurity policy, focused on the U.S. federal government, and serve as a bridge between Blueprint Biosecurity’s government affairs team and technical program areas (e.g. PPE, far-UVC, and the built environment), helping to translate our technical expertise into impactful policy.
In this role, you will collaborate across Blueprint Biosecurity’s internal teams and with policymakers and external experts to advance the work of all program areas and ensure that our policy goals and government affairs strategies align with our objectives. The ideal candidate will be excited to build a biosecurity policy program from the ground up, and willing to pivot and iterate to find ways to succeed in a rapidly changing environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop new policy proposals in concert with our internal teams and government affairs team as the biosecurity policy expert
- Conduct research on legislative documents, distilling key information into concise summaries and producing reports and insights
- Manage relationships with external collaborators including government affairs firms, consultants, coalitions, and research organizations
- Identify opportunities to engage with members of Congress, executive branch officials, agency staff, and other leaders across politics, policy, NGOs, and industry in order to further our mission
- Proactively track and synthesize internal teams’ priorities while monitoring emerging developments in the biosecurity policy landscape to guide our government affairs work
- Support Blueprint Biosecurity’s internal teams by providing insights on political, policy, and regulatory considerations
- Draft clear, compelling materials such as letters, white papers, and 1-pagers to communicate our goals to policymakers and other diverse stakeholders
- Track legislation and monitor key changes in government personnel, priorities, and structures to identify opportunities to advance policy goals
- Represent Blueprint Biosecurity at conferences, stakeholder meetings, and networking and social events to expand our network and identify opportunities for action

Education and Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of policy or legislative experience such as work directly with policymakers or in policy-focused work within government, industry, nonprofits, think tanks, or coalitions is required; greater experience expected for the Senior Policy Analyst role
- Demonstrated knowledge of the federal legislative process is required; specialized knowledge of health, defense, and/or appropriations is preferred
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams or diverse stakeholders, especially in the biosecurity space, is preferred
- Experience working on teams with a wide breadth of responsibility and/or with startups is preferred
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent relevant work or research experience) is required

What We Offer
We are open to hiring at the Analyst or Senior Analyst level. The Analyst role requires at least 3 years of relevant experience, whereas we would expect significant relevant experience at the Senior Analyst level.
Compensation: The base salary for this role ranges from $90,000–$130,000 USD for a Policy Analyst and $135,000–$175,000 USD for a Senior Policy Analyst. We consider a variety of factors when formulating an offer, including but not limited to, the role and responsibilities, work experience, education/training, skills, expertise, and internal equity.

Location: We are a remote team headquartered in Washington, DC. This role is based in the Washington, DC area. Candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States. Due to the nature of this role, competitive candidates will have the ability and willingness to work non-traditional hours and travel up to 25% of the time.
