The Vice President of Health will lead high-impact healthcare communications campaigns focused on public affairs, strategic positioning, executive thought leadership, and crisis response. This role will serve as a senior strategist on several marquee accounts and help grow new healthcare client relationships. Ideal candidates are campaign-minded, results-driven professionals with a run-till-you-get-tackled mentality and deep experience navigating high-stakes advocacy and reputational challenges in healthcare.
Qualifications
- 8+ years leading healthcare public affairs, strategic communications, or advocacy campaigns at an agency, health system, health plan, large company, advocacy group, or association
- Bachelor’s degree required in communications, public policy, political science, journalism, public health, business, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred (MPH, MPA, MBA, or related) but not required.
- Experience working within or closely with state or federal healthcare policy environments (e.g., Medicaid, public health, regulatory issues).
- Strong existing relationships with health policy and communications decision-makers, particularly across our priority regions, including the Southeast, Deep South, Midwest, Florida, Texas, and Washington, D.C.
- A proven track record of closing and growing client relationships, especially in healthcare and for multi-state or high-stakes challenges
- Experience using generative AI, digital grassroots tools, analytics, and other technologies
- Exceptional writing and messaging skills, able to convert complex ideas and personal stories into compelling copy and positioning
- Confidence and composure when dealing with C-suite leaders, policymakers, and reporters during high-pressure situations
Responsibilities
- Lead strategic direction for 5 to 10 healthcare clients, working collaboratively to develop bold public affairs strategies, issue advocacy campaigns, executive visibility programs, and rapid response communications.
- Distill complex health policy and reputational challenges (e.g., access to care, Medicaid, scope of practice) into clear, persuasive messaging and narratives that move lawmakers, regulators, health leaders, and community stakeholders.
- Oversee strategic communications programs that elevate a healthcare organization’s brand or an executive’s visibility and reputation.
- Guide campaign execution by working with our creative studio, research/data team, and account personnel to ensure plans, content, messaging tools, and reports are delivered on time, on budget, and to our highest standards.
- Develop earned and owned media strategies for policy-related campaigns and public education efforts.
- Pursue new business opportunities, using your existing relationships and reputation to help bring in new clients. Co-lead proposal and pitch development with senior leadership.
- Represent the firm at virtual and in-person healthcare events and contribute to industry panels.
- Mentor junior and mid-level account staff, setting the tone for a high-performance culture focused on speed, clarity, accountability, and mutual respect.
Hours and Location
- Standard working hours are expected. Occasionally, extended hours and sometimes weekend hours, as well as travel, may be required.
- This is a remote position, with the ability to travel approximately 15–20% of the time for key meetings and events, or to visit the Tallahassee HQ office.
