ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, MARKETING OPERATIONS (CONGRESSES & EVENTS)
SUMMARY:
The Associate Director, Marketing Operations (Meetings & Events) is a member of Ionis’ Commercial Operations group, reporting to the Head of Marketing Operations. This role will play an integral part in supporting Ionis’ commercial organization and ensuring continued seamless and compliant execution of brand strategies and tactics. This individual will have broad responsibilities related to improving the foundational Marketing Operations capabilities, processes, and tools. The successful candidate should be a self-starter, execution-oriented, collaborative, and proactive in identifying risks and opportunities.
This role strategically partners with Marketing, Medical Affairs, Compliance, Field Teams, Informatics, external agencies, and additional functions (e.g., Patient Advocacy, Corporate Affairs). This role will also have visibility to senior leadership across multiple functions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Overall oversight of Ionis promotional events including speaker programs, commercial exhibits, field meetings, congresses, and other events associated with commercial congress activities.
Design and direct all operational aspects of Ionis Speaker Bureau to optimize the effectiveness of speaker programs and ensure all activity is being conducted in compliance with all policies.
Serve as business owner for rep and speaker portal to support speaker program operations and create, maintain, and administer policies, procedures, user guides, and training for the processes and systems related to speaker programs and events operations.
Lead and direct cross-functional planning and execution of commercial meetings and events (launch meetings, POA planning, national field meetings, exhibits/sponsorships), including objective setting, venue selection, agenda development with commercial training, budgets, hotel contracting, vendor management, and post-event analytics.
Facilitate cross-functional alignment (e.g., Commercial and Medical) in development of congress strategy and plan, ensuring clear objectives are set and aligned with respective brand/therapeutic area strategy.
Lead coordination, planning, and execution of all congress-related activities, working closely with Commercial and supporting functions (e.g., Marketing, Medical Affairs, Patient Advocacy, etc.), to ensure a comprehensive and impactful presence at priority congresses, including leading pre- and post-congress meetings, and providing onsite congress support, serving as main point of contact for internal employee attendees.
Establish and report on relevant process performance metrics for congress and event operations: program tracking, budget management and event reconciliation, analytical reporting, contracts management, field program targeting analyses.
Provide oversight of vendor support for all congress-related activities, speaker bureau related activities, and commercial meetings and events.
REQUIREMENTS:
The individual who will be successful in this role will have existing experience with meeting and event operations and execution. The individual must also be highly organized, self-motivated, approachable, and an articulate team player who has the highest level of integrity and core value system consistent with our culture and core principles.
Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years’ or equivalent with relevant marketing/operational experience in the biopharmaceutical industry
Demonstrable understanding of legal and regulatory environment in pharmaceutical promotions, pharmaceutical industry guidelines, and other compliance-related issues
Proven ability to manage without authority, independently lead high visibility strategic projects and translate strategies into defined resource needs, tactics, and metrics to achieve results and operational excellence
Strong project management skills: proven ability to manage multiple tasks to conclusion, within allotted timelines/deadlines, and without compromise to quality of work
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, ability to develop important relationships with key stakeholders, good conflict management and negotiation skills
Ability to travel routinely as part of role responsibilities

The pay scale for this position is $139,334 TO $175,000
