Job Description: Associate Director, Medical Communications
The Associate Director, Medical Communications, is responsible for:
- Developing medical publications.
- Managing publication agencies/vendors and budgets.
- Overseeing medical communication deliverables.
This role collaborates with the medical communication lead and therapeutic area medical director to develop strategic publication and scientific communication plans.
The Associate Director reports to the Head of Medical Communications for the Oncology Therapeutic Area.
Essential Functions
- Lead publication planning teams for assigned therapeutic areas.
- Oversee abstracts, posters, oral presentations, and manuscripts from Jazz-sponsored clinical trials and research.
- Build partnerships with internal stakeholders, including Medical Affairs Directors, HEOR, biostatistics, and more.
- Establish strong working relationships with authors and external experts.
- Manage publication agencies and participate in vendor selection.
- Handle financial and contractual aspects of projects, including vendor management.
- Ensure publication reviews are completed and materials adhere to Jazz SOPs and good publication practices.
- Develop materials for Medical Science Liaison (MSL) teams.
- Coordinate medical communication activities at key congresses.
- Support scientific communication plans and oversee execution tactics.
- Provide input on commercial strategies.
- Prepare, analyze, and interpret study data.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Advanced scientific degree (PhD, PharmD, or MD preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years in medical communications or a related field.
- Hematology/oncology experience preferred.
- Expertise in strategic publication planning.
- Knowledge of publication practices and guidelines (e.g., GPP3, ICMJE, CONSORT).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Physical Demands
- Occasional mobility in and outside office environments.
- Frequent computer use and prolonged sitting.
Work Environment
- Typical office environment with minimal exposure to noise or temperature changes.
- Occasional need to work outside regular hours to meet business demands.
Compensation (For US-Based Candidates Only)
- Base Pay Range: $156,000.00 – $234,000.00
- Compensation depends on qualifications, experience, and other relevant factors.
