The Department of Health, Behavior and Society (HBS) – Communications Coordinator
The Department of Health, Behavior and Society (HBS) is seeking a Communications Coordinator. The Communications Coordinator assists in the planning and execution of print and electronic communications (e.g., newsletters, calendar of events, press kits). The role also provides broad-based administrative support to advance the goals of the designated work area.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Perform administrative/clerical duties in support of communications efforts, e.g., maintain databases, lists, and records.
Manage website content and updates, which may involve some graphic design or desktop publishing.
Coordinate mailings and calendar of events.
Produce multimedia files, presentations, audio/video recordings, photographs.
Draft, write, edit, and proofread communications pieces, e.g., articles for publications, newsletters, press releases, and general announcements, typically of simple, general, or routine nature.
Work with a combination of internal and external communication materials.
Support data gathering and/or draft communications in relation to routine inquiries from the media.
Conduct research and fact-finding to assist in developing content for communication pieces.
Coordinate logistics for internal and/or external special events or functions, e.g., open houses, exhibits, campus tours, orientations, dinners, conferences, and may staff those functions.
Monitor, facilitate, and coordinate production and distribution of communication pieces, including production schedule, layout, interface with vendors, writers, freelance writers, and photographers.
Process invoices and monitor expenses.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Three years of related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/equivalent, as permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of college coursework.

Starting Salary Range: $18.20 – $33.90 HRLY (Commensurate w/experience)

Total Rewards
The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary depends on multiple factors, including geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training, and other qualifications.

Education and Experience Equivalency
30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.
Up to two years of non-related college coursework may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required where equivalency is permitted.

Applicants completing their final academic semester/quarter may be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide information confirming their academic completion date.
