Position Overview:

The Manufacturing Institute (MI) is seeking an innovative, team-oriented communications professional to serve as its Content Specialist as part of its Content Support team. This role centers on writing and editing clear, engaging content that helps bring the MI’s mission and work to life. From newsletters and articles to short-form blogs, social content, and web copy, this role crafts targeted communications to reach key audiences with timely and relevant information.

In addition to developing written content across various channels, this position is also specifically responsible for updating, maintaining, and improving the MI website’s content. This includes working with the Director of Workforce Content to identify outdated material, drafting new copy, and working closely with internal teams to ensure the site reflects the organization’s priorities. While social media support is part of the position, the core of this role lies in writing and managing digital content across multiple channels to effectively reach multiple audiences served by the MI.

Work at the direction of the Director of Workforce Content to develop and execute compelling, audience-focused content across newsletters, articles, blogs, web pages, social media, and more.

Write and edit short-form content that highlights workforce insights, program milestones, event opportunities, and ways stakeholders can engage with MI.

Manage the MI’s social media content strategy by writing original copy and repurposing content that extends the reach of newsletters, blogs, and other core communications. This includes identifying opportunities to create relevant and timely content and being agile in engagement across platforms.

In collaboration with the MI’s Operations Team, maintain and update the Manufacturing Institute’s website, ensuring accuracy and relevance by revising existing copy, drafting new content, and identifying areas where content can be added or improved.

Manage a regular newsletter publishing schedule.

At the direction of the Director of Workforce Content, execute rollout plans for the publication of new MI research, initiative announcements, and other major initiatives, including associated web and social content.

Utilize analytical tools to measure the reach of the organization’s digital tactics and evaluate the performance of social media and digital marketing campaigns.

Coordinate with communications and brand strategy professionals from the organization’s affiliate, the National Association of Manufacturers, to ensure brand alignment with creative or content pieces.

We are looking for Ambitious Candidates who meet the Following Criteria:

Professional Experience: At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in communications, content writing, and/or digital communications. Ideally with a writing portfolio or other demonstrated writing successes. Experience working in a nonprofit, public relations agency, or workforce development setting is preferred but not required.

Writing & Editing: Proficient writing and editing skills, with experience developing content for various formats, including articles, blogs, websites, and short-form digital copy. A keen eye for detail, grammar, and tone consistency is vital.

Website Management: Experience updating and managing website content (ideally in WordPress); interest in developing skills to spot and address content gaps.

Social Media Management and Content Development: Knowledge of various social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, etc.). Familiarity with social media management tools (like Sprout and HubSpot) is essential to plan and analyze posts.

Analytical Skills: Experience analyzing social media metrics and insights to gauge content performance and audience engagement. Ability to use data to inform strategy and decision-making.

Experience with Content Creation Tools: Familiarity with basic graphic design and content creation tools (such as Canva) to quickly produce visual content when needed.

Time Management and Multitasking: Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently. Organized and able to prioritize tasks effectively.

Teamwork and Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with other team members and understanding of organizational goals. Operates well in small collaborative teams and possesses high-level customer service acumen for interacting with staff, vendors, and stakeholders.

Organization and Judgment: Ability to execute multiple projects with varying timelines and scopes at the direction of the Director of Workforce Content. Able to occasionally travel to a small number of planned events hosted across the country.

Technical Expertise: Proficiency in MS Office programs and SharePoint required. Familiarity with HubSpot and Asana is a plus.

And finally, it’s important that you have…

Good communication and interpersonal skills. Relationships are important! You will be growing, supporting, and strengthening (and sometimes repairing) relationships all the time.

At least some experience with and working knowledge of the Microsoft productivity suite—Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook.

A team-oriented attitude with a developed customer service focus. Work is for others (our “customers”) and often informed through relationships.

Salary Range:

$71,731 – $80,000 annually. This salary range represents a good-faith estimate of the lowest to the highest salary for this position. The final salary offered will be based on qualifications and experience.
