Statement of Purpose
The Director, Marketing and Communications is accountable for the development and direction of media strategies and communications plans to ensure all communications are fully aligned with the strategic positioning of the organization. He/She is actively engaged with the vice president, marketing and communications and the company’s executive vice president in the planning and execution of the organization’s comprehensive communications and marketing strategy. He/She supports strategic planning, execution and content management for NIB’s corporate meetings and conferences including two large national events.

Responsibility for the Work of Others
The Director, Marketing and Communications will direct and manage the performance of the Program Director, Communications, and Branding and Packaging Manager. The position will also play a significant role in the oversight of outside public relations firms, podcast and video production companies, websites, social media agencies, freelance writers and publishing agencies, and other communications and marketing consultants. The position will also contribute significantly to the onboarding and management of marketing and advertising agencies as needed.
Education
BA/BS degree in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing, or a relevant discipline from a regionally accredited university or college or other related field or equivalent experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable.

Experience
Ten-plus years of hands-on communications and marketing experience preferred. 5+ years at a manager level directing the work of others or equivalent experience.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage all public and media relations, social media, internal communications, video and podcast production, associated agency relations, and editorial oversight for publications and corporate websites.
- Provide oversight, strategic direction, and messaging for corporate communications programs and written communications including electronic and print communications, media/press materials, and social media.
- Field inbound media requests, deliver content, and determine company participation.
- Ensure timely and accurate management of SKILCRAFT licenses and permits.
- Oversee compliance with applicable ISO requirements and assist with SOP documentation and review.
- Manage issues and secure approval of media statements in consultation with appropriate departments.
- Support identification and execution of internal and external marketing and communication opportunities.
- Strategically manage organizational meetings and national conferences; lead planning committees.
- Develop integrated communication campaigns with the marketing/creative team.
- Work with consultants to implement overall marketing strategies and campaigns.
- Maintain brand guidelines and ensure design meets industry and federal standards.
- Work closely with the VP on executing the marketing and communications plan.
- Advise the President and senior leaders on PR, marketing, and communications matters.
- Mentor direct reports, and manage agencies to ensure departmental efficiency.
- Assist agency PR/marketing staff with local campaign development and execution.
- Develop relationships with agency counterparts to support national marketing efforts.
- Provide strategic support for high-visibility national issues and initiatives.
- Lead special projects to advance organizational mission and goals.
