Job Summary
The Director of Media Relations is responsible for driving CareSource’s positive reputation within the media, mitigating crisis situations, and managing overall media relations strategy and tactics. This role works closely with other departments and business unit leads to ensure cohesive and consistent communications.
Essential Functions
- Lead a team in proactively generating coverage, monitoring media, and responding to inquiries.
- Build and manage relationships with key media and influencers.
- Conduct or coordinate with external consultants for news media and public speaking training for executives and spokespersons.
- Support public event and speaking activities through media outreach, management, and reporting.
- Oversee, direct, and coordinate with external agencies and consultants on both proactive and reactive media relations activities.
- Provide public relations and corporate communications assistance to department leads as needed.
- Deliver performance metrics against business-driven KPIs.
- Perform any other job-related instructions as requested.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in communications, media relations, or public relations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Experience managing media relations for a large organization is preferred.
- Experience in crisis communications and reputation management is required.
- Experience building and maintaining a network of media contacts and relationships is required.
- Experience in developing and executing effective media strategies and building and shaping narratives.

- Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver quality, error-free content.
- Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with key media contacts and internal stakeholders.
- Capability to conduct media and public speaking training for executives and spokespersons.
- Proficiency in media monitoring and analysis tools to assess media coverage and trends.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills to oversee multiple initiatives and ensure timely execution.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Working Conditions
- General office environment; may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Travel 10-15%.
Compensation Range
$108,600.00 – $190,000.00
