Senior Digital Advocacy Specialist Overview
The Senior Digital Advocacy Specialist will join Earthjustice’s Digital Engagement team in the Communications department. The position is responsible for devising and executing Earthjustice’s digital advocacy and engagement strategies. This individual will focus on advocacy, cultivating, and stewarding Earthjustice’s potential and existing supporters using digital tools and platforms such as email, web, and SMS.
Responsibilities
Development of Digital Advocacy Campaign Strategies (40%)
- Create digital advocacy campaigns to support the goals of the Communications department, PAL, and other departments.
- Work with communication strategists, digital team, PAL staff, program staff, team members across the organization, hired contractors, and external coalitions to develop digital advocacy promotion strategies on Earthjustice digital channels, in particular email, web, SMS, social media, and paid advertising.
- Work with the Digital Advocacy Associate in the production of advocacy-related web content, outbound HTML email, and SMS communications regarding our programmatic work to existing and potential Earthjustice audiences.
- Participate in relevant team, program, and coalition meetings to generate ideas and make decisions on effective digital advocacy campaigns.
- Serve as technical lead in optimizing the performance of email and SMS advocacy tool templates.
SMS Program Management (20%)
- Manage the SMS program, working with the Sr. Digital Advocacy Manager to develop and implement SMS program strategy as a critical, rapidly growing function of our overall digital advocacy strategy.
- Develop SMS list growth strategies through paid and unpaid efforts such as partnering with the social media team on social campaigns, cross-promotions with other organizations, sponsored petitions, advertising campaigns, and partnership with influencer marketing.
- Develop tactics and strategies to improve SMS supporter engagement like deliverability tracking, A|B testing, welcome series implementation, and managing multiple audience segments.
Email/SMS List and Audience Growth (15%)
- Develop email list growth strategies through partnerships, social campaigns, marketing campaigns, cross-promotions, and advertising campaigns.
- Oversee the SMS program in partnership with the Sr. Digital Advocacy Manager.
- Develop and implement digital advocacy and engagement strategies to broaden our target audience and deepen existing supporter engagement.
Data Monitoring & Analysis (10%)
- Work in tandem with the Sr. Digital Advocacy Manager to oversee regular reporting on analytics, leverage data to adjust strategy, and monitor the overall digital health of the program.
- Generate metrics and populate the digital advocacy dashboard to inform goals and strategic direction.
- Partner with external contractors on data gathering and reporting.
External and Internal Stewardship (15%)
- Coordinate the email and SMS calendar, communicating with team members across the organization about promotion capacity.
- Follow up with supporters to get them further engaged in digital advocacy campaigns, like writing LTE, partner/coalition building, and taking additional actions.
- Collaborate with the Digital Advocacy Associate to write follow-up messages to external supporters on case updates and campaign updates.
- Draft best practices guidelines and train staff on digital advocacy.
- Attend external skill-building and networking events to develop partnerships across like-minded organizations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred. 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience working in or with a nonprofit preferred.
- Experience with at least one eCRM tool—preferably EveryAction.
- Experience with SMS mobile messaging tools.
- Experience with project management tools – preferably Monday.com.
- CRM, HTML, and Photoshop experience preferred.
- Proficiency with Excel, HTML, and digital tools.
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects with a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work across teams and independently.
- Passionate about environmental issues.
- Strong detail orientation and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and in-person communication skills.
- Demonstrates an awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and orientations.

Compensation and Benefits
We offer a mission- and employee-focused work environment and a competitive compensation package, including excellent benefits.
- San Francisco: $96,500 – $107,200
- Remote (US): $82,100 – $107,200 (A more specific remote range will depend on location.)
