### Role Overview
**Senior Managing Director (SMD) of Communications and External Affairs**
Based in Flamboyan’s Washington, DC office, the SMD is responsible for setting the vision, strategy, and long-term management of communications, branding, marketing, and external relations for Flamboyan DC. They will craft and execute strategic communications strategies to increase visibility of Flamboyan’s programmatic work locally and nationally, ensuring consistency across all channels and promoting Flamboyan’s brand.

The SMD will collaborate across teams to create messaging, secure speaking engagements, and expand social media reach. They will also partner with the SMD of Communications in Puerto Rico to strengthen the Flamboyan Foundation brand and ensure organizational cohesion.

### Job Responsibilities

#### Strategic Visioning & Implementation of Marketing & Communications
– Develop and implement a vision and strategy for Flamboyan’s marketing and communications.
– Lead press and media strategy to increase brand awareness.
– Define a strong brand narrative aligned with Flamboyan’s mission and values.
– Foster consistency in design and tone across all communications channels.
– Develop and optimize social media strategy, reporting on results.
– Identify and address communications technology needs.

#### Expand External Recognition & Influence
– Use research and data for compelling storytelling.
– Manage day-to-day operations of communications function.
– Lead earned media efforts and manage media relationships.
– Maximize visibility through event sponsorships and partnerships.
– Build a digital strategy for audience engagement and adoption.

#### Team Leadership
– Build and lead a high-performing communications team.
– Set annual success metrics for communications strategy.
– Promote innovation and collaboration across teams.
– Manage communications budget effectively.

#### Organizational Stewardship
– Serve as ambassador for Flamboyan’s organizational brand.
– Model and foster Flamboyan’s core values.
– Steward financial and human resources responsibly.
– Deepen expertise in equity-centered communications.

#### Organizational Equity + Culture Responsibilities
– Uphold high standards and contribute to positive workplace culture.
– Demonstrate active commitment to equity and inclusion.
– Foster collaboration and influence within teams.

### Qualifications
– Bachelor’s degree in strategic communications, marketing, or public affairs.
– 12-15+ years of professional experience in agency or in-house roles.
– Track record of raising visibility for mission-driven organizations.
– Experience in leadership roles within education or non-profit sectors.
– Strong leadership, collaboration, and team-building skills.

### Compensation
The salary for the Senior Managing Director, Communications and External Affairs role is $158,610 annually, with comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, leave packages, and professional development opportunities.

Work Location + Schedule
This position is based in Washington, DC, with a hybrid work schedule and occasional travel required.
