Longwell Partners is a full-service, pro-democracy communications firm based in Washington, DC. We specialize in high-profile political projects—including The Bulwark, Home of the Brave, and Republican Voters Against Trump—and we’re looking for a Social Media Content Strategist to lead social media strategy and execution across our pro-democracy projects.
About the Role
This is a strategy-first, hands-on role for someone who closely follows political news and understands how social platforms shape what people see, share, and believe. You’ll help define how social media is used across a range of pro-democracy efforts, translating political and communications goals into clear, effective platform strategies, while also playing a central role in execution. That means helping determine what content should exist, how it should be framed, where it should live, and how it should respond to a fast-moving news cycle.
This role requires a deep understanding of major social platforms, strong political judgment, and comfort working closely with writers, designers, video editors, and political communications teams. You should be able to move easily between higher-level strategic thinking and practical execution, knowing when to zoom out and when to get hands-on.
What You’ll Do
-
-
- Lead social media strategy across pro-democracy projects, ensuring platform-specific approaches are clear, intentional, and effective.
- Advise internal teams and partners on content strategy, framing, and best practices across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Twitter/X, Bluesky, and YouTube.
- Help plan and guide day-to-day social media execution, working closely with writers, video editors, designers, and political communications teams to move content from idea through publication.
- Develop content ideas, frameworks, and platform-native creative that translate political strategy into compelling social media outputs, including short videos, graphics, and written content.
- Provide editorial judgment on tone, messaging, and timing across platforms.
-
What We’re Looking For
-
-
- Deep understanding of social media platforms and strategy, specifically TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Bluesky, and YouTube. Experience in political, advocacy, or fast-paced news environments strongly preferred.
- 3+ years of experience developing or advising on social media strategy, with responsibility for shaping messaging, responding to breaking news, or guiding senior stakeholders.
- Strong political instincts and deep familiarity with American politics, political media, and online discourse.
- Excellent strategic writing and message discipline, with the ability to turn complex news into clear, persuasive content.
- Sound judgment about what will work on different platforms and why, including channel norms, formats, and audience behavior.
- Comfort working with video content, including developing concepts, shaping scripts, and collaborating on edits (hands-on editing experience is a major plus).
- Comfort operating at the pace of the political news cycle, including responding quickly to high-priority moments outside of standard business hours.
- Ability to work in-person from our Washington, DC office five days a week. This is not a remote or hybrid role.
