### JOB SUMMARY

The American Nurses Association (ANA) is seeking to hire a Director of Public Relations and Communications to work across the ANA Enterprise and lead a team of public relations specialists. As PR Director, you will oversee the strategy, development, execution, and evaluation of integrated public relations and executive communications strategies for the organization.

In this role, you will focus on effectively communicating the brand, vision, and strategic objectives among a wide range of internal and external audiences, translating policy, issues, and programmatic work into communications and media opportunities for the ANA Enterprise.

### WHAT YOU WILL DO

– Directs integrated efforts to strategic objectives to effectively position the organization as a leading voice and top resource on nurses, the nursing profession, and health care.
– Directs executive communications functions to bolster thought-leadership visibility.
– Leads and maintains effective environmental scanning and listening and develops and implements rapid response efforts and systems on issues and events in the external environment.
– Owns the organization’s crisis communication strategy and operationalization.
– Cultivates relationships with mainstream media in major print, broadcast, and online outlets.
– Oversees message development and media training for key stakeholders.
– Leads the development and execution of multi-media strategies including video, PSAs, media relations, social media, and executive communications to bolster integrated efforts and effectively reach nurses and all key audiences.
– Develops communications strategies that support the communications efforts of ANA’s constituent and state nurses’ associations, creating constructive collaboration with ANA around the integration of content, messaging, and best practices.
– Develops and directs processes to ensure materials and content convey key messages and meet quality standards with a focus on meeting stakeholders’ needs.
– Develops, implements, and leads the organization’s executive communications program, including the development of a thought leadership program for the Enterprise.

### WHAT YOU BRING TO ANA

**Education:**

– Undergraduate degree from a 4-year institution required (in advertising, marketing, or communications preferred); master’s degree preferred.
– Minimum of 12 years of public relations or corporate communications experience, 15+ preferred, with a minimum of 5 years managing a team.
– Record of proven and demonstrable accomplishments in public relations and communications within a complex organization.
– Exceptional communication skills including listening, written and verbal communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
– Innovative, creative thinker, with a record of accomplishment for translating ideas into action plans.
– Advanced group facilitation and public speaking skills.
– Politically astute with organizational savvy and excellent judgment.
– Proven ability to analyze, prioritize, and execute complex tasks under deadline and to dedicate extra time when necessary to complete assignments and achieve desired results.
– Skilled collaborator able to build solutions in a politically sensitive, high visibility work environment.
– Outstanding human relations skills with the ability to motivate and coach staff.
– Strong organizational and project management skills and attention to detail.
– Flexibility in dealing with changing priorities and a demanding workload.
– Demonstrated ability to recognize and appreciate cultural differences and meet the needs of individuals and organizations from diverse backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, and races.
– Superior skills in media and public relations.
– Experience integrating digital and social media into communication campaigns.
– Resourceful, lifelong learner able to tap into professional networks.
– Able to perform well under deadline stress, with a strong drive to achieve results.
– Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
– Collegial, positive, innovative work style.
– Ability to multi-task without losing critical attention to detail.

**Work Schedule:**
