Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont is looking for a Public and Media Relations Manager to join our Brand and Engagement team. In this role, you will help shape and position the organization as a thought leader, enhance visibility for key issues and Plan leaders, and drive earned media results that align with broader business and brand priorities.

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is $90,000–$110,000. Additional compensation opportunities and incentives will be detailed during the interview process. Please note that the range listed above is our good faith estimate of the hiring range for this role.

If you are hired at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, competencies, education, experience, and internal equity across the current team. We also offer a robust benefits package with significant value (see below).

Location

Blue Cross has transitioned to a hybrid workplace where employees within 50 miles of our Berlin, VT office work onsite Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and remotely the rest of the week.

The qualified candidate will be located in the New England/New York area. We will also consider candidates from Maryland, Washington, DC, Delaware, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

Public and Media Relations Manager Responsibilities

Develop and implement public relations strategies.

Build and maintain relationships with local and national media contacts, pitching stories, coordinating media interviews, responding to media inquiries, crafting messaging, guiding crisis communications, and monitoring media coverage.

Provide thoughtful and responsive counsel to leaders on media inquiries, interviews, and editorial opportunities; schedule and coordinate media interviews.

Collaborate with key leaders to develop messaging on policy and health care issues.

Draft and edit press releases, media statements, fact sheets, executive quotes, and other messaging with clarity and precision for distribution through a variety of media outlets.

Reinforce the organizational mission and culture by supporting an environment of change and adaptability; lead to innovation and change as the needs of the market, customers, and stakeholders change.

Public and Media Relations Manager Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.

8–10 years of public relations, media relations, or external communications experience.

Health care background and relationships with Vermont media strongly preferred.

Proven success securing earned media in national, regional, and industry outlets.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff and leadership.
