So you’re like, “Cool, AI is awesome, but everything I have it write sounds … super blah.”
If I asked AI to play a song, I wouldn’t get one I actually liked — like The Ramones’ “I Wanna Be Sedated.” I’d get a Top 40 pop song that, to me, sounds like a toothpaste commercial.
Not because AI hates punk — it’s just a giant calculator trained to pick the safest option. When you’re not specific, you get blah soup every time.
So how do you get some punk rock into your writing?
Here’s how 👇
1. Specify the three “whos.”
– Who is the AI? (What role or persona do you want it to play?)
– Who are you and what do you want?
– Who’s your audience and what do you want them to do?
2. Tell it what you like.
Short, sarcastic, informal, edgy—whatever fits your vibe.
3. Tell it what you don’t like.
Ban words like “synergy,” “revolutionary” or anything that sounds like a computer threw up on your lap.
Do you have to do all that every single time you write something new?
Nope—you can save it.
How to Save Your Writing Voice
Create a folder in your AI platform — a Project in ChatGPT, a Gem in Gemini or a Notebook in Microsoft Copilot — and name it something super clever like “Writing Assistant.”
Upload docs or text files that show:
– Who you are and what your goals are
– Who your main audience is
– What you like — tone, vibe, phrasing
– What you hate — clichés, buzzwords, formats, fluff
– Examples of your past writing
Then ask the AI to:
Analyze those files and build a Style Guide — a written summary of your tone, personality and do’s/don’ts.
Save or pin that Style Guide inside the folder.
Reference it automatically before every new draft.
When you have something new to write, open your Writing Assistant and let it help you write in your own voice. And every time you finish a new piece of writing, drop it back into that folder so it keeps refining and better understanding your style.
Over time, your AI cowriter stops sounding like toothpaste commercials — and starts writing like the punk rocker you truly are.
